1in8b is a free life simulator you can play without an account. This page lists everything we handle, why, and where it is kept.
Who we are
1in8b.app is an independent project. Privacy questions: privacy@1in8b.app.
Your lives stay on your device unless you save them
The life you are living, your past lives and your settings are stored in your browser (local storage). A life leaves your device only if you tap “Save this life”: then its seed number, your choices, a short summary and its year-by-year record are kept in your account so you can see it on any device. You can delete saved lives on My lives. A shared link contains only a random number that recreates the same birth; the share image is drawn in your browser and leaves your device only when you share or save it.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to see which pages are used and to find errors: pages viewed, device type, approximate country and, for Clarity, anonymised recordings of clicks and scrolling. In Europe they load only after you choose “Accept”; you can change your choice at any time with the link in the footer. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits without cookies. None of them receive what happens in your lives.
Purchases
If you buy a Keepsake pack, payment is handled by Stripe (card and Alipay) or PayPal; we never see your card or wallet details. We keep the order (product, amount, time, provider reference), the email address the provider gives us, a random browser ID that links the pass to this browser, and when you agreed to immediate delivery and first used it, so we can deliver and restore the pass, handle refunds and answer disputes. We email receipts through Resend.
Accounts
You never need an account to play. If you save a life or keep a purchase, the email you give becomes your account. There are no passwords: we email a sign-in code or link through Resend, and Cloudflare Turnstile checks that the request comes from a person. We keep your email (encrypted), when you signed in, and a session cookie (sid) that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. You can delete your account on My lives: this removes your email and saved lives; orders are kept for accounting without your email. You can also sign in with Google: Google tells us only your email address and that it is verified; we never see your Google password.
Usage counts
To see how many people go from one step to the next (for example starting, finishing or saving a life), the site records the step, the language, an approximate country, the device type and the site that sent you. In Europe a random ID is added only after you accept analytics; otherwise steps are counted without any ID. We do not store your IP address for this. Raw records are deleted after 180 days; only daily totals remain.
Restoring a pass
To restore a pass on another device we email you a one-time code through Resend. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that the request comes from a person.
Hosting and security
The site runs on Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and request details to deliver pages and block abuse.
How long we keep data
Order and pass records are kept while the pass can be used and as long as tax and payment rules require. Restore codes expire after 10 minutes.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the data linked to your email, or object to its use, by writing to privacy@1in8b.app. You can also complain to your data protection authority.
